Description

Details

Amaranthus Archie's Red Spike is a distinctive, richly colored and highly textural variety that produces tall, 60" inch plants. Feathery looking, red-burgundy flower head spikes grow on long, sturdy stems and make excellent cut flowers. It is one of the darkest colored blooms of all of the Amaranthus in our collection. Unlike other varieties with unbending stiff spikes, Archie's Red Spike has a soft, bending appearance that is highly useful in floral arrangements due to its implied movement. Amaranthus thrives in the heat of summer and, despite the rays of the baking sun, the color remains concentrated and does not fade. Can be used as a fresh cut or dried for everlasting arrangements. Amaranthus is notorious for self seeding freely, so if you desire to keep your garden beds tidy, lop all of the flower heads before they go to seed. Although primarily grown as a cut flower, both the flower head seeds and the leaves are edible. Packet: 100 seeds.
