Dolichos Lablab Bronze Leaf, commonly known as Hyacinth Bean is an easy to grow, annual, climbing vine that produces gorgeous bronze-green leaves, showy, sweet scented lilac purple flowers and remarkable brilliant purple bean pods. The flowers and bean pods are a favorite textural element for floral creatives to add interesting architectural components to arrangements and bouquets. The fresh beans are a food crop in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean and are safe to eat only when cooked. Farmers also use this bean as a nitrogen fixer in fallow fields to increase soil fertility. Keep in mind, the raw or dried beans are poisonous. Interestingly the flowers are edible and can be eaten raw or steamed. Use the flowers as a gorgeous garnish for salads and desserts all summer!

Plants are fast growing and will quickly mature to cover a garden gate, patio cover or trellis structure. Perennial plant in zones 9 to 10. This sun loving annual prefers moist, well drained soil and tolerates humidity well. Considered a sustainable landscape plant, you will enjoy the seasonal transformation this plant makes until taken by frost in the fall. Packet: 15 seeds.

CAUTION: The UNCOOKED seeds of Lablab are classified as poisonous if ingested in LARGE quantities. Heat dissipates toxins. Please handle and store seeds properly secured.
