Description

Details

Echinacea purpurea Magnus, commonly known as Coneflower, is an enchanting garden favorite that features 4" inch, daisy-shaped, rosy-carmine colored flowers with rusty-bronze mounded center eyes or "cones". This variety was developed at a nursery near Paarp, Sweden where plantsman, Magnus B. Nilsson toiled for more than a decade to create a full, erect, flat petal to surround the vivid flower cones. Blooms top tall, sturdy stems that emerge from lush green mounded plants that grow 30" to 36" inches tall and will flower from early summer until the fall frost. An essential variety for every meadow, cutting, cottage or country style garden. Magnus is also a wonderful crossover variety to bridge native landscapes with more manicured garden areas. This variety will thrive in average soils and hot, dry conditions, shrug off cold snaps, and is equally at home in full sun or partial shade locations. If left to overwinter, the flower cones will turn black and release seeds which are a hardy treat for small birds during the cold months.

Echinacea purpurea ‘Magnus’ has a long list of outstanding merits including being the Perennial of the Year in Sweden, the 1998 Perennial Plant of the year by the Perennial Plant Association, the 2003 Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society and the 2014 Perennial of the Year by the National Garden Bureau (NGB). Impressive! An outstanding choice for cut flower producers and nursery stock growers. Packet: 100 seeds.
