Description

Details

Eragrostis spectabilis, also known as Purple Love Grass, is a blooming perennial grass that features exquisite, airy stems of purple spiklettes that add a magical bit of whimsy to bouquets, arrangements and garden spaces. Plants mound into well formed clumps and send up 12" to 18" inch sprigs on sturdy single stems during summer and fall. Best suited for a sunny location, Purple Love Grass grows in almost any well drained soil medium, even sandy soils in rock gardens. Pluming seed heads boast a vibrant shade of rosy-purple that when planted in mass will create a "purple haze" effect over large plantings. An excellent selection for gardeners who love to attract beneficial pollinators and small birds who use this ground cover for nesting. Foliage turns a copper color in fall providing a wonderful autumn show in the garden. Once established, the plants are very drought tolerant and are suitable for xeriscaping. This low maintenance grass will be most productive if the spent stems are cut back in winter to encourage new growth for spring. Well suited for beds, borders and container plantings. Hardy to zone 5. Packet: 50 seeds.
