Nicotiana - Tobacco Flower

Nicotiana, commonly known as Tobacco Flower, is a half hardy annual that emits the most intoxicating, delightful, lily-inspired aroma. Flowering Tobacco plants produce micro fuzz covered leaves and stems that are slightly sticky to the touch embellished with pretty star shaped trumpet flowers with gentle nodding heads. A favorite of floral designers and gardeners alike, despite its sticky tendencies, Nicotiana makes a highly desirable cut flower. When planting in garden beds, experiment with blending the various colors to create a gorgeous fragrant swatch of beauty. Cultivars vary from 16" inches to almost 5' feet tall and make excellent border, backdrop and container plantings. A well loved favorite of hummingbirds and pollinators, place Nicotiana in a cheerful location where you can enjoy these garden visitors. Interestingly, Nicotiana Flowering Tobacco was named after the 16th century ambassador, Jean Nicot, who is credited with introducing tobacco to the French court. These garden beauties prefer moist, well drained soil, a sun filled location and are deer resistant. Be aware that all parts of this plant are poisonous, including the seeds. Exercise extreme caution around children and pets. The purchaser assumes all liability relating to the use of this product.
