Scabiosa - Pincushion Flower

Scabiosa, commonly called Pincushion Flower, is a delightful garden perennial, often used in cutting gardens, as the flower can be delightfully displayed fresh or dried. Several varieties produce fascinating seed pods that are also used by floral designers and gardeners who desire highlights of dramatic textural interest in their garden beds. As the common name denotes, the flower head resembles a pincushion: disk-shaped with thousands of micro petals comprise the spiky flower head that floats atop a hardy, wiry stem. The plant habit is typically mounding, 24" to 36" inches tall and blooms from early summer through fall with colorful 3" to 4" inch flower heads. This easy to grow perennial is drought, humidity and heat tolerant and prefers full sun and rich, well drained soil.
