Cress

Cress, botanically known as Lepidium sativum, is a popular annual herb in the Brassicaceae family that shares a peppery, tangy flavor and aroma. Commonly known as Marathi, Pepper Cress or Persian Broadleaf Cress as it originates from Persia (Iran). Often mixed into salads as a flavor accent or used as a garnish, Cress is a cross over plant used in the cut flower industry when left to flower, bolt and go to seed. Cress is a fast growing plant with many sprig type branches that produce narrow oval leaves and pink or white flowers depending on the variety on well mounded plants averaging 24" inches. Typically Cress is grown as an annual, however in warmer zones if left to self sow seed, it will return again next season. Cress is becoming an increasingly popular flavorful micro green sprout. This nutrient dense plant has vitamin A, D and folate.
