Details

Komatsuna Red Mustard, also known as mustard spinach, is an Oriental dark maroon leaf variety with green underside. As flavorful as it is beautiful, this delicious leaf is enjoyed steamed, in soups and stews, in salads and well loved in Asian stir fries. You can expect an abundant yield from this cut-and-come-again variety, harvesting in baby leaf form or allowing the leaves to fully mature. A traditional ingredient in Japanese cooking, Komatsuna gets its name from the Komatsugawa district in Japan where it originated. The leaves can be harvested at any stage. They are tender and mild flavored in baby form and grow in texture and flavor intensity as they mature. Komatsuna Red Mustard is resistant to bolting and cold tolerant making it a solid crop across many northern growing zones. This variety is excellent for overwintering for cold season production when given protection from hard frosts. Interestingly, it is also heat tolerant and thrives in almost every zone when proper moisture levels are maintained. An easy choice for home gardeners who love to cook and want to add a flavorful leaf variety to spice up their culinary creations or fresh market growers who want to diversify their offerings with a culinary favorite. 35 days.
