Description

Details

Miscanthus sinensis Chinese Silver Grass, commonly called Maiden Grass or Eulalia Grass, is an easy to grow, perennial, warm season ornamental grass variety that produces shimmering tresses of silvery-cream bloom tassels throughout summer. As the autumn season cools, the caryopsis tassels turn a deep golden-cream. This highly adaptable ornamental grass is useful for creating separations between garden plantings, as a hedge screen or used throughout landscapes for its vertical and textural interest. The tassel blooms are sought after in the floral industry as a cut flower element and they are utilized both fresh and dried. Chinese Silver Grass can grow to 72" inches tall and is best appreciated with an easy breeze as the plant grass blades tossel and the tassels put on a show dancing in the wind. Once roots are established, this variety is nearly maintenance free and is hardy to zone 5.

NOTE: In some parts of the United States, this grass has spread into natural areas by seeding and is considered invasive in those areas. Review of risks should be undertaken before selecting this grass. If you want to avoid colonization, simply cut all bloom heads before they set seed in the fall. Wind-disseminated seeds increase the invasive nature of the plant if the bloom heads are not proactively cut to eliminate seed spread. Packet: 25 seeds.
