Nigella Miss Jekyll Dark Blue is the heritage namesake of the famously talented English garden designer, Gertrude Jekyll, 1843-1932. Well formed, fennel like foliage gives way to floating shades of sky blue, rough-edged star shaped flowers delicately surrounded by sprigs of finely dissected, thread-like leaves. This whimsical and romantic charmer is a staple to classic cottage gardens and adds exceptional textural interest in garden beds of all themes and styles. Nigella Miss Jekyll was a recipient of the British Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit in 1895. Interestingly, this species was discovered as an offering on a seed list in 1810, proving centuries of admiration from gardeners throughout time. A well loved cut flower favorite, the Jekyll series is commonly used both fresh and dried. In addition to the mature flower, the bristly seed pods make for extraordinary textural interest in fresh and dried flower arrangements. Regular deadheading will prolong blooms and this Nigella is renowned for its ability to self sow seeds and return year upon year. One of our 'Top 25 Must Grow Favorites', this hardy annual does well with a strong start in the fall to return as Mother Nature awakens the spring garden. Packet: 50 seeds.
