Poppy Shirley Red, commonly known as Corn Poppy, produces well formed, mounded base plants that send up wiry stems with whimsical, crinkled papery, 3" to 4" inch, striking red petaled blooms that appear to dance in the breeze. This well loved garden favorite is simply breathtaking when planted in mass creating a sea of red flowers that appear to sway and float with the gentle wind. A meadow garden must and bumble bee favorite. Shirley Poppies are sun loving and prefer rich well drained soil. Plants grow 20" to 28" inches tall. An excellent early season bloomer, this variety can be planted in fall to over winter or in early spring before other crops get underway for the season. Plants will freely self sow and naturalize over time creating a wonderful maintenance free patch of color that will be one of the first to bloom each spring. A cut flower stand out when properly treated with post harvest protocol of searing the cut ends with a match or micro torch flame. Packet: approx. 200 seeds.
