Artichoke

Artichoke is easy to grow from seed and can be grown almost anywhere in the United States. Favorable to a sunny location and long growing season, you can expect a bountiful harvest of this "globe" flower bud that contains the inner bracts and "heart" of the bud which are the edible parts of the plant. Visually striking, artichokes are also grown for cut flower production as the flower globes are available in green and purple and are a wonderful textural component for floral artistry. You can also grow artichokes from seed to be planted into landscape beds to create an "edible cutting garden" as these plants create ornamental interest with their bushing habit and fancy globe heads. Typically artichokes are grown as annuals, however in warmer climates they can return as a perennial.
