Collards

Collards are a beloved, vitamin rich, summer garden crop of fast growing, multi-purpose, dark-colored edible leaves. A seasonal staple in the American South, this leafy green is growing in popularity in other regions as it is easy to grow from seed and is fast to mature to harvest. In cool to moderate climates, collard seed can be grown from spring clear through until after fall frost. However, in the south, they are typically a spring and fall crop, as they are not suited to withstand extreme high heat and humidity of the southern summer. Cool temperatures and mild frost increase the flavor profile of collards. Our selection includes Vates type, smooth leaf, bunched and crinkled in both hybrid and open-pollinated varieties.
