Rhubarb

Growing Rhubarb from seed is a simple way to start your own perennial rhubarb patch for harvesting that will produce for years to come. Once your rhubarb patch has become established, it will begin to yield the highly recognizable red crimson stalks. As an immature, first year plant you will see stalks that are red and green; both suitable for eating raw or cooked (never consume the rhubarb leaf it as it contains poisonous oxalic acid). Hardy rhubarb stalks have a tart flavor, exceptional for making pies, preserves, cobblers and baked goods. This old fashioned favorite is a wonderful addition to a bed of perennial edibles for repeat harvests year after year.
